Shark-Free Marinas Initiative
![]() |
Worldwide, an estimated 60 million sharks are harvested per year, in response to seemingly insatiable demand for shark fin soup, and to a lesser degree, for sporting purposes. Believing everyone shares a responsibility to curtail the decimation of shark populations, Bimini Big Game Club Resort & Marina supports the Shark-Free Marinas Initiative in the Bahamas region and vessels are requested not to arrive at the Club's facility with sharks taken for sport.
The Bahamas is home to many shark species and the healthy reef systems that support these sharks. The harvesting of sharks for sport is not in the best interests of the Bahamian people or Bahamian tourism. Our hope is this restriction fosters awareness among sport fishing enthusiasts and promotes a lasting and healthy population of sharks in Bahamian waters for current and future generations.
